Save Your Liver

What You Need to do Now to Save Your Liver

Regular snacking has its benefits, often helping to keep blood glucose levels under control as well as keeping you from overeating at your next meal. But selecting those snacks is oh so important.
A recent study published in the Journal of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, Hepatology, demonstrated that a poor snack selection will not only increase your waistline, but also fatten up one of your most important organs, your liver.
In the study, researchers examined whether high-calorie diets consisting of either frequently consumed high-fat and high-sugar snacks or having fewer larger meals affected liver health more.
Lean men were instructed to increase their daily calorie intake either by frequently consuming high-fat and high-sugar snacks between meals or combining them with their daily meals to create a larger portion size. The participants remained on the hypercaloric diet for six weeks.
Not surprisingly, the increased calorie consumption resulted in weight gain in all the participants, yet those who were instructed to snack more frequently experienced increased intrahepatic triglyceride content (IHTG) as well as the accumulation of more dangerous abdominal fat as compared with those who combined their snacks with three daily meals.
These results are significant since high-fat and sugary snacks are in abundance these days and are often marketed to children.
“American children consume up to 27% of calories from high-fat and high-sugar snacks,” said lead author Dr. Mireille Serlie with the Academic Medical Centre Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Increased IHTG is associated with the development of hepatic steatosis, or fatty liver, one of the most prevalent liver diseases in America.
Furthermore, the accumulation of abdominal fat poses its own set of risks. Researchers from the Harvard School of Public health note that abdominal fat in particular is biologically active, secreting its own set of hormones and other compounds that negatively affect our health and increase risk factors for developing colorectal cancer, liver disease, cardiovascular disease and a number of other chronic health conditions.
A 2010 Australian study found that normal weight women who carried a higher percentage of abdominal fat were significantly more insulin-resistant than those who carried more peripheral fat.
Surprisingly, this held true even when the women with more abdominal fat had lower BMIs than the the women with more peripheral fat, attesting to the dangers of even a little mid-section fat.
For those that need frequent meals and snacks throughout the day, be sure to avoid sugary and high-fat choices and instead choose organic fruits and veggies coupled with protein.
Note: the emphasis should really be on the reduction of high-sugar and high unhealthy fat (eg., trans-fat laden) snacks, since saturated fat is generally very healthy as we have written aboutelsewhere .
Here are a few options you can try the next time hunger strikes between meals.
§  Organic Greek yogurt and fresh fruit
§  Sliced organic tomato with olive oil and Feta cheese
§  Organic string cheese with grapes
§  Organic apples, celery or bananas with nut butter
§  Organic baby carrots with hummus
§  Organic hard boiled eggs with fresh fruit

Apple Cider Vinegar

  May 22nd, 2014
Health Headlines From The Alternative Daily...

Multiple Studies: You Can Control Blood Sugar with Apple Cider Vinegar
by The Alternative Daily - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Apple cider vinegar is one of the most potent ‘all-purpose’ tonics around. Among its huge array of health benefits, multiple studies have found that it may help lower blood sugar levels.
The traditional uses of apple cider vinegar are vast. To name just a few, it has been used to ease digestion, aid in flu prevention, reduce inflammation, regulate pH balance, alleviate allergy symptoms, ease nausea and heartburn, as a staple in detox regimens, and for a number of skin conditions, including reducing acne and smoothing wrinkles.
One study, conducted at Arizona State University by Doctors Carol S. Johnston and Andrea M. White, PhD, surveyed 11 people afflicted with type 2 diabetes. The researchers found that taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar right before bed lowered the blood sugar levels of these individuals by 4 to 6 percent by morning.
Another study led by Dr. Johnston gave subjects, some with insulin resistance and some without, 20 grams of apple cider vinegar and 40 grams of water. Results showed that the after-meal blood sugar levels of the subjects with insulin resistance lowered by 34 percent when they drank the apple cider vinegar.
Dr. Johnston says, “scientific studies over the past 10 years show benefits from vinegar consumption. It’s inexpensive and can be easily incorporated into the diet. Used in combination with diet and exercise, it can help many people with type 2 diabetes.”
Yet another study, performed at Tokyo University in Tokyo, Japan, discovered that the acetic acid found in vinegars inhibits the activity of carbohydrate-digesting enzymes, including sucrase, mastase, lactase and amalase. This inhibition results in select sugars and starches passing through the digestive system without being digested, having less impact on blood sugar levels.
apple cider vinegarWhen choosing an apple cider vinegar, make sure to select one that is organic and unpasteurized, as the pasteurization process can destroy many of the health benefits. Organic, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar may have a cobweb-looking solid floating inside; this is known as mother of vinegar, and is a natural cellulose produced by the vinegar bacteria.
Mother of vinegar is harmless, and let’s you know that the vinegar is actually unpasteurized. Most vinegar manufacturers nowadays pasteurize the vinegar before it hits the shelves, to get rid of the mother of vinegar, and in turn, a lot of the nutrients that the vinegar offers.
If you have type 2 diabetes, or are looking to reap the benefit of some of the extensive list of other perks, it is worth it to give apple cider vinegar a try.

Ups and Downs of Dieting

Ups and Downs of Dieting

Q: I'm the queen of yo-yo dieting, and I'm afraid that I've ruined my metabolism because of all my ups and downs. Is there hope for me?
A:
According to a number of studies published in respected journals, your yo-yoing ways have not "ruined" your metabolism. However, all those ups and downs may have changed your body composition in a way that makes it harder for you to lose at each successive cycle. That's because when you drop weight, you lose both fat and muscle, but when you regain weight, you gain back proportionally more fat. That's unfortunate because, pound for pound, muscle burns more calories than fat.
The best way to maintain your valuable muscle mass is to strength train two to three days per week. Also, make sure you're getting enough lean protein. You can achieve this by consuming at least half your body weight in grams of protein. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, eat no less than 75 grams of protein per day. Best bets are skinless chicken and turkey, seafood, low-fat dairy foods, egg whites, beans, tofu, and edamame.

Learn more about M.S. with Natural Solutions

According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society there are approximately 400,000 people in the United States living with M.S. On top of that there are an additional 200 diagnosis’ a week. M.S. is a disease that attacks the central nervous system and can, in severe cases, be disabling. From the time you get diagnosed the progress and severity of the disease can be unpredictable and can vary from person to person.

Rising Above M.S.
Imagine for a moment knowing that you have problems keeping your balance but not knowing when you will lose it. With more than 400,000 Americans suffering from MS, more cases are being diagnosed every day. This degenerative illness interferes with your central nervous system—the part of your body that controls behavior and movement—and manifests in unpredictable ways, creating different symptoms for each sufferer. Furthermore, the symptoms often “come and go” and are rarely consistent. They may include numbness and tingling of limbs, loss of coordination, tremors, loss or distortion of eyesight, dizziness, and pain. Coping with an unpredictable, chronic illness can take its toll, but natural treatments can help.

Attack of the Autoimmune Disease
You may hear a lot of buzz on the topic of autoimmune diseases, but what exactly does that mean? Autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells in the body. According towomenshealth.gov, 23.5 million people living in the US suffer from autoimmune diseases. These diseases are one of the top 10 leading causes of death in female children and women in all age groups up to 64 years old. A few well-known autoimmune diseases include celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, and psoriasis.

Be Aware of MS
Each year, thousands of people across the nation spend a week with their full attention turned to the crippling disease known as multiple sclerosis (MS). MS is a disease that involves an immune system attack against the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves). Because the specific target of the immune attack in MS has not yet been identified, MS is referred to as an immune-mediated disease. Learn more here.

Black Cumin – A Life Elixir for all Illness Except Death

Black Cumin – A Life Elixir for all Illness Except Death

Known as Islam’s miracle cure seed, black cumin is also called Habbatul barakah, meaning  “seed of blessing.”
Black cumin seeds (Nigella sativa) have been used therapeutically for over 3,300 years, since their first reported discovery in Egyptian Pharoah Tutankhamun’s tomb. Part of the buttercup family, the seeds are dark, thin, and crescent-shaped when whole.
There have been reports of these “magical” seeds used throughout history in the Middle East, the Mediterranean and India, for minor headaches and skin irritations to otherwise deemed impossible circumstances. Black cumin seed is regarded throughout the entire Middle East as one of the most powerful anti-carcinogenic herbs ever in existence…
Cleopatra used it as a beauty treatment.
Queen Nefertiti used black seed oil to bring luster to her hair and nails.
Hippocrates used it to cure digestive and metabolic disorders.
The Prophet Muhammad called it “a remedy for every illness except death.”
Archaeologists even confirmed King Tut kept a bottle of black cumin seed oil  in his tomb –for use in the afterlife.
It comes as no surprise that black cumin seed oil has also been used by practitioners of Ayurvedic and Chinese traditional medicines for thousands of years for a similarly endless list of conditions, from migraines to diabetes to cancer. In recent years, it has been put to the test and several scientific studies confirm its long reported health benefits.
Referred to as “The Remedy for all things..”
With proven effectiveness against the most life-threatening culprits, including but not limited to cancer, bacteria, viruses, ulcers, diabetes, chronic inflammation, liver & pancreatic disease, fungus, molds and deadly parasites….
Black cumin may be the most “all-in-one” health provider in existence. Since 1964, there have been 458 published studies involving black cumin – confirming what Middle Eastern and North African cultures have known for thousands of years – that black cumin is nothing short of a miracle all-healing remedy.
It’s native source, Nigella sativa, has been involved in hundreds of studies regarding health, and particularly cancer treatment and prevention. One of its active ingredients, thymoquinone, has been effective in reducing the size of existing tumors. In studies on rats and humans, black cumin seed oil has been found to do the following:
Inhibit tumor growth by up to 50 percent
Increase the growth of healthy bone marrow cells by 250 percent
Aid in the production of natural interferon
Demonstrate strong anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties
Help to protect the body against damage from chemotherapy and radiation
Deactivate and/or kill certain types of cancer cells
The tangible miracle of black cumin
Black cumin is one of the earliest cultivated plants in human history, meaning it was one of the early providers of life. These black seeds contain over 100 chemical compounds and some of the ingredients are yet to be discovered and identified.
The main active ingredient in black seed oil is crystalline nigellone. The seed oil also contains beta sitosterol, thymoquinone, myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, palmitoleic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, arachidonic acid, proteins and vitamins B1, B2 and B3.
The seeds also contain calcium, folic acid, iron, copper, zinc and phosphorous. The high content of phytosterols found in black cumin oil is also necessary to the human body for natural production of hormones, pro-vitamin D and bile acid – aiding in a prevention of endocrine disorders, immune deficiency and the #1 killer – cardiovascular disease. As a result, these tiny black cumin seeds provide an all-around super multi-vitamin of nutrition.
cumin oil5 ‘Life-Saving’ reasons to consume black cumin daily and allow for miraculous living…
Potent enough to jumpstart the immune system  - tackling nasty threats like cancer and HIV successfully
Dr. Gary Null states, “every time you take black cumin you are stimulating your immune system to fight on your behalf and increase natural killer cells,” referring to its ability to improve the immune system, and treat even the most impossible invaders like cancer and HIV, successfully.
Black cumin does this by helping to stimulate the production of bone marrow and cells throughout the immune system. It increases the production of interferon, protects normal cells from the damaging effects of harmful invaders, destroys tumor cells and increases the number of antibody producing B cells within us.
In turn, black cumin supports the entire body. Its immune-building properties and active compounds have been proven to fight a never-ending list of diseases and autoimmune disorders, via the boosting of the body’s immune cell production, bone marrow and natural interferon. Even for people in the best state of health, consuming black cumin regularly can greatly increase vitality and well-being.
Yemen woman has stage 3 cancer disappear
A woman in Yemen, suffering from stage 3 cancer, longed for natural treatment. She was advised to take black cumin seeds with honey three times a day, in addition to garlic and honey. After three months, her cancer completely disappeared. The woman continued consumption of these nutrient-rich foods even after illness had diminished.
Not only has black cumin been demonstrated to improve a variety of cancer situations like hers, but researchers at the Cancer Immuno-Biology Laboratory in South Carolina also found that black cumin helps stimulate the activity of neutrophil granulocytes – the most abundant type of white blood cell in the body. These neutrophils target cancer cells before they multiply, and eliminate them before they can develop into harmful tumors.
The ‘deadliest” form of cancer proves no match
Nigella sativa has been well-documented for its ability to fight many forms of cancer, including pancreatic cancer. Right now, pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in America, because the survival rate after five years of conventional cancer treatment is sadly only 4 percent. A study conducted at Kimmel Cancer Center, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia revealed that Nigella sativa DESTROYED pancreatic cancer cells – with an incredible 80 percent cancer tumor cell death!
It also stopped the gene transcription process so cancer cells could not replicate! The magic ingredient in Nigella sativa appears to be thymoquinone. Researchers believe thymoquinone holds promise as a preventative strategy both for patients who have already gone through surgery and chemotherapy, and as an important prevention strategy for others, especially those who are genetically prone.
Follow your heart, you’ll need it
The utmost vitality doesn’t mean anything if you don’t maintain a HEALTHY HEART. Black cumin benefits the heart and cardiovascular system in a variety of impressive ways… Rich, unsaturated omega 6 & 9 acids and phytosterols help fortify and increase the elasticity of blood vessel walls, decrease capillary fragility and permeability, prevent thrombus formation, and decrease arterial pressure.
Black cumin also assists in the decrease of blood cholesterol – preventing formation of dangerous atherosclerotic plaque, as well as preventing development of inflammatory elements in the overall cardiovascular system. Additionally, black cumin has been used for tachycardia, bradycardia, hypotension, hypertension, as well as other various heart diseases.
Protection against antibiotic resistant “super bugs” already threatening our future
In 1989, an article about phenomenal properties of black cumin was published in thePakistani Medical Journal. Then in 1992, research of the antibacterial properties of black cumin in comparison with strong antibiotics was carried out in the medical department of the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. The facts were very facsinating – black cumin oil demonstrated itself as a MORE EFFICIENT remedy against certain types of bacteria, including those which most strongly resist antibiotic drugs.

The best way to consume black cumin
The “OIL” is the most effective form to consume because it is more concentrated than whole, unpressed seeds, and is more readily assimilated.  Also, because of its potent, absorbable concentration, only 1/2 teaspoon is needed per dose. Most health experts and natural physicians recommend taking 1/2 teaspoon of the oil two to three times per day for therapeutic effects, on an empty stomach/before meals and at bedtime. It can also be taken once per day for a healthy maintenance dose or as a preventative measure.
Black cumin can have sedative effects for some, and because the oils have bile-expelling characteristics, in my opinion, it is best taken in the evening – unless utilizing 2-3 times per day for therapeutic benefits. You can take the oil on its own, mixed in water or juice (great with raw honey), or added to warm tea – like herbal chai, etc.
Many people have also added a small amount to their face and body creams, with phenomenal results. It is also beneficial topically for burns, psoriasis and other skin disorders. Mix with honey and/or garlic for a great tonic for effective immunity-boosting during cold and flu season. Black cumin should be taken daily as a preventative measure for all illnesses, and life-long vitality.
Where to get 100% PURE black cumin oil?
First, it must be (true) black cumin oil – purely from Nigella sativa. You also only want to purchase organic, pure-pressed oil that is completely free of all additives – and should be stored in a light-protective and air-sealed Miron bottle.
Currently, Activation Products is the only supplier of pure black cumin oil that is matched to these standards.
The amazing health effects listed above are what inspired our team at Activation to produce pure black cumin oil.
I highly recommend you consume it regularly. This is one of my personal staples, and I know you’ll enjoy it as much as I do!
Yours in health,

- Ian Clark, Founder of Activation Products
